American Entertainer Madonna Puts Israelis To Shame

Gentiles Studying Torah
I remember hearing about the exploits of Madonna Louise Ciccone into Jewish mysticism in the late 90’s. Here is a non-Jew who, at least on some level, holds the Torah with high regard. Madonna is synonymous with a lack of “modesty” of dress-she certainly doesn’t dress herself like an observant Jewess. However, Tel Aviv doesn’t “dress herself” like a religious Jewess either! So, what is the problem? Why is Lady Tel-Aviv bothered by Lady Madonna? On one level entertainers who come here, in the eyes of the anti-settlement movement, raise the profile of Israel and “justify” its actions. On another level it has to be aggravating to see non-Jews who take Torah learning seriously come to a city in Israel that is known primarily for being “post-Torah!” I was, several years ago, invited for Shabbat at a family’s house in Ginot Shomron (in the territories) and the father of the family related to me that Madonna had bought sets of Zohar (the main book of Kabbalah) for every family in the settlement. How is that for a slap in the face to the anti-settler intelligentsia?

Tikkun Jesus?
An irony to this whole story is that Madonna is an Italian-American Christian by birth. Perhaps her *tikkun (fixing) is that she is studies Kabbalah, the Oral Torah that Christians reject. Is it not an amazing irony that someone whose name is essentially connected with being “the mother of Jesus” would study the Torah he rejected and come back to the very country he came from? Maybe that is too much fixing for those suffering from the Englightenment Occupation in occupied Tel Aviv.
*Tikkun Olam תיקון עולם is the concept in Judaism of “fixing the world.” Adam, the first man, sinned and was taken from the Garden of Eden. Judaism works to repair his mistake and restore mankind to his former greatness. One kind of “Tikkun” occurs when we, through proper living and observance of Torah, correct an aspect of our soul that has been blemished.

He uses such clever pseudonyms as “Witty Richard” and “Hasbara Buster.” Well, a few days he posted a lurid item on his blog claiming that the leaders of the pro-Israel Z Street were leaving nasty comments on his blog in response to his infantile rantings.

KapoDickie blog catches anti-Z Street fraudster Silverstein

Richard Silverstein, if that is his real name, is amongst the worst of the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, Holocaust deniers in the blogosphere among so-called progressive anti-Zionist Jews. His blog “Tikkun Olam” is the 21st Century equivalent of the scurrilous Nazi era anti-semitic newspaper , Der Sturmer with its lurid racist caricatures of Jews, published by the infamous Julius Streicher.

Silverstein gets away with it on the blogosphere under the protection of First Amendment Free Speech.

Silverstein has been embroiled in a nasty libel defamation case involving Southern Californian Israeli American activist and journalist Rachel Neuwirth. Neuwirth won an important California appellate court decision earlier this year against Silverstein and former MESA President, Professor Joel Beinin of Stanford University. Silverstein calls Neuwirth a “cyber bully”. Beinin had falsely accused Neuwirth of a ‘death threat.’ A hearing on the libel defamation matter is to be held in the Santa Monica California district court early next week. Others who have given the treatment by Silverstein include Mort Klein of the ZoA, Daniel Pipes and even Thomas Friedman, New York Times columnist. One who comes in for particular scorn is David Yerushalmi, a litigator active in the pro-bono fight against Sharia in America. Silverstein calls Yerushalmi a “devout Jewish fascist.”

Now Silverstein is embroiled in a nasty bit of anti-Semtic internet false flagging in an attack on Z Street, the newly formed pro-Zionist group that appears to be gaining interest and some ‘mojo’.

The blog KapoDickie has unveiled the latest nefarious attack by Silverstein. It characterize him as:

Richard Silverstein, better known as “Little Dickie Kapostein” throughout the Jewish internet, is an unemployed cheerleader for Islamofascist terror. He endorses Holocaust Deniers and Neo-Nazis. He wants to see the Jews of Israel murdered. He supports anti-Jewish terrorist attacks.

Perhaps the Santa Monica District court hearing next week that will pit Jewish Zionist Neuwirth against anti-Zionist progressive Jews, Silverstein and Beinin, may result in the better ideas besting the worst ones promoted by these self-hating bloggers and academics. Certainly an apology and striking of Silverstein’s libelous defamatory comments from the blogosphere would be a start. Prying his fingers loose from his keyboard, that is another matter entirely.

If Diane Mason Only Knew...History

Palestine Crusader Diane Mason, in her blog Lawrence of Cyberia, discusses the term Islamofascists in her article that goes by the same name. In the midst of her denouncement of Zionism, Mason, an apparent linguistic expert sometimes cited by Silverstein, makes the following assertion:

Nevertheless, there is a logical gap in this narrative: it’s big enough to drive a bus through it, and it’s called “the Palestinian people”. Zionism has always sold itself – right back to Israel Zangwill’s coining that catchy little phrase, “a land without a people for a people without a land” – by pretending that the Palestinian people aren’t there. Because once you acknowledge that there are already people in Palestine, you have to acknowledge that your Zionist narrative is a very partial truth. Zionism suddenly becomes not just a programme to build a national home for the Jewish people, but a programme to build a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine, which is already home to an indigenous population – 95% of whom (at the time of the first Zionist settlement in 1882) – happen to be non-Jewish. And once you acknowledge that, the issues Zionism raises become suddenly much more complex.

Whoa Nelly! Slow down…ever heard of the Old Settlement? Apparently not:

The Old Yishuv (Hebrew: היישוב הישן‎, ha-Yishuv ha-Yashan) refers to the Jewish community that lived in Eretz Yisrael, from the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE to the First Aliyah in 1881, prior to the onset of Zionist immigration. The Old Yishuv dwelled mainly in the Four Holy Cities: Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias and Hebron.

Additionally, the following information, available in in the book Hastening Redemption, shows that the European immigration in 1881 could not have been the first Zionist settlement:

In accordance with the Vilna Gaon’s wishes, three groups of his disciples and their families, numbering over 500, made aliyah to the Land of Israel between 1808 and 1812, a movement documented in Arie Morgenstern’s book, Hastening Redemption. This immigration is considered to be the beginning of the modern settlement of Israel. These groups of ascetics were called Perushim, meaning “separated”, because they separated themselves from worldly pleasures to study the Torah. They originally settled in Safed because the Muslim authorities in Jerusalem prevented settlement by Ashkenazi Jews in that city, but after numerous devastating calamities there, including plague and earthquake, most moved to Jerusalem. Their arrival revived the presence of Ashkenazi Jewry in Jerusalem, which for over 100 years had been mainly Sephardi.

Along with the famous 1881 immigration, the was was, in the same year, a separate and simultaneous Yemenite Jewish immigration occurred:

First wave of emigration: 1881 to 1914
Emigration from Yemen to Palestine began in 1881 and continued almost without interruption until 1914. It was during this time that about 10% of the Yemenite Jews left. Due to the changes in the Ottoman Empire citizens could move more freely and in 1869 travel was improved with the opening of the Suez Canal, which reduced the travel time from Yemen to Palestine. Certain Yemenite Jews interpreted these changes and the new developments in the “Holy Land” as heavenly signs that the time of redemption was near. By settling in Israel they would be a part in what they believed could precipitate the anticipated messianic era.
From 1881 to 1882 a few hundred Jews left Sanaa and several nearby settlements. This wave was followed by other Jews from central Yemen who continued to move into Palestine until 1914. The majority of these groups moved into Jerusalem and Jaffa. Before World War I there was another wave that began in 1906 and continued until 1914. Hundreds of Yemenite Jews made their way to Palestine and chose to settle in the agricultural settlements. It was after these movements that the World Zionist Organization sent Shmuel Yavne’eli to Yemen to encourage Jews to emigrate to Palestine. Yavne’eli reached Yemen at the beginning of 1911 and returned to Palestine in April 1912. Due to Yavne’eli’s efforts about 1,000 Jews left Yemen left central and southern Yemen with a several hundred more arriving before 1914.

I happen to know most of Richard Silverstein’s little catch phrases, including the driving a bus through the gap business (he says Mack truck). Looks like Diane Mason has fallen into her own gap-of ignorance.

A little background on this champion of “peace and justice.” Richard Silverstein bloviates almost daily on his ironically named ‘Tikun Olam’ blog. He controls his blog like a Soviet style apparatchik, editing out readers’ responses that the commandant deems at odds with the Silverstein party line.
Silverstein fancies himself a “progressive” supporter of Israel, of the tough-love kind, who does his friend the ultimate service of pointing out his errors and saving him from himself. He shows this love and “support” by endorsing divestiture efforts against Israel like last year’s I-97 anti-war, anti-Israel initiative. In the JT News article, Divesting, not Boycotting, he makes the tortured distinction between divestiture (good) and boycotts (bad).
Another way this lover of Israel shows his affections is by promoting the sloppy scholarship and borderline anti-Semitic rantings of Professors Walt & Mearsheimer (The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy), the unhinged anti-Zionist Avraham Burg (The Holocaust is Over), and the historically challenged reflections of Jimmy Carter (Palestine: Peace not Apartheid). Silverstein defends the deranged Norman Finkelstein, last seen offering up a ‘Heil Hitler’ in Yoav Shamir’s sham documentary Defamation, an embarrassingly shallow film meant to trivialize anti-Semitism. Finkelstein apparently caught the director off guard with his nod to the Fuhrer.
Silverstein has now taken up the cause of Sabeel’s Naim Ateek, liberation theologist and Palestinian Christian who lives in Jerusalem and peddles a disingenuous cry for peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. The only problem is he openly declares that the very notion of Israel as a Jewish state is a racist construct. Hear him on KUOW interview on7/20, Arab Christians in Palestine: A Conversation with Rev. Dr. Naim Ateek.
He also has a nasty habit of likening Palestinian suffering to Christ’s crucifixion. Ateek presents a picture of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict so decontextualized and removed from history as to be rendered virtually meaningless. Palestinians are portrayed as the eternal innocent victims, while Israeli Jews are demonized as the relentless, oppressive occupiers, who just won’t desist from ‘stealing’ Palestinian land.
Silverstein fancies himself a broadminded progressive who knows what Israel needs to do to bring about a just and lasting peace. The trouble is irksome Israel advocates and real Zionists keep thwarting his plans. Never at a loss for an ad hominem against those with whom he disagrees, Silverstein characterizes figures like Natan Sharansky (last I checked, still something of a national hero of the Jewish people) as an “intellectual thug” (he throws Dore Gold, former Ambassador to the U.N. into the same category), Alan Dershowitz as a “charlatan,” Ambassador Michael Oren, one of the most brilliant and independent thinkers in modern Zionism as an “egghead,” Bernard Henri-Levy (BHL) as a traitor to the left, and on and on. I’ve recently learned that his special moniker reserved for me is “repulsive thug.”
Silverstein continually mischaracterizes StandWithUs as a “radical, right-wing” organization, and has a particular animus for Rob Jacobs, SWU/NW’s executive director, and myself. He has expressed “repulsion” at the fact that I was, up until last month a board member at our local conservative shul, and incredulously pointed out to his readers that I am a social worker at “the local Jewish old age home, “(“if you can believe it”, was how he put it).
Ironically, this thin-skinned attack dog took gargantuan offense when I offhandedly, in a private e-mail, suggested that his childlike antics might best recommend him for a public spanking. This was in response to his outlandish clarification that what he meant by “intellectual thuggery” was that “if Sharanksy or (Dore) Gold had their way, people like me (Silverstein) would end up in left-wing internment camps.” I kid you not.
Dumbstruck, all I could think to respond was that if people like Sharansky and Gold even gave this egoist a second glance, “they’d probably recommend a public spanking.” The metaphor-deaf Silverstein took my throwaway line as an actual threat, and then, get this, threatened to take me to a Beit Din. He settled for “telling on me” to the Board President and the Rabbi, of course, omitting any context that might explain what actually transpired.
As the old joke goes about the bear and the hunter who continually misses shooting the bear with ever larger weaponry, each time by the broadside of a barn, I can only conclude
“that this is not about hunting.”
Addendum: Apparently, in the world according to Silverstein, SWU is now in cahoots with some imagined cabal of pornmeisters, trying any which way to promote Israeli tourism and culture.
Here’s a snippet just to give one a flavor of this nuttiness:
“Make no mistake, this is not a one-off promotion by an odd-ball Jewish gay pornographer. This is part of an orchestrated hasbara campaign spearheaded by groups like Stand With Us, who promoted Israel during the latter’s Gay Pride Festival as a natural ally of gays around the world. The angle for SWU (and there always IS an angle with groups like this) is to trumpet the alleged homophobia of Palestinian/Arab society compared to the alleged freedom and tolerance of “western” Israel towards a gay lifestyle. Never mind that Israel is less tolerant of gays than the average western country. That matters little for the hasbaraniks of SWU.”
Well, there you have it, “straight” from ‘Tikun Olam.’

Swan Song of the Jewish Left

Caroline Glick has written an excellent article for the Jerusalem Post entitled “The lonely Israeli Left.” She discussed the American Jewish Left and its affect on Israeli-American politics.
In her piece Glick comments:

Whereas Obama’s goal of openly distancing the US from Israel is a source of anxiety and frustration for Israeli leftists who believe that US pressure should be a means to the end of compelling Israel to give away land to the Palestinians, it is a positive development for American Jewish Leftists. Led by the new anti-Israel Jewish lobby J Street, and supported by groups like Americans for Peace Now, the Union for Reform Judaism, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and the National Jewish Democratic Council, the American Jewish Left supports the White House’s hostile positions on Israel as an ends unto themselves.

Obviously, the ultra-liberal baby-boomer Jewish left is singing it’s swan song now with Obama. They realize that they won’t have another chance to inflict their confused philosophy on Israel, and so now they are pushing with all their might. This is a sad commentary on the exile-Jews who are pleading to a major power to relinquish that which it took them 2,000 years to regain!
On the edge of an assimilation/materialism-driven oblivion, Western Jewry are desperate to “make a difference.” Instead of returning to Torah Judaism, Western Jewry in the US turn to what is familiar to them: “let’s make peace.” Naively, they exert their resources and energy to further the values of other peoples and disregard their own. Song of Songs (1:6) relates:

Karin Friedemann Botches Israel's History

Husband and wife team Joachim Martillo and Karin Friedemann have combined once again in order to give Taming Korach more material. In an article on her Friedemann's site, Israel Steals Palestinian Heritage, History she incorrectly assumes:

In English to use the word Jew is anachronistic before the 10th century

This is not true. In The Book Of Esther, which took place some 2500 years ago and was recorded for sure several thousand years ago, the word Jew is mentioned seven times. In one case:

Talk about getting history wrong! These are the amateurish mistakes that are typical of the Friedemann/Martillo combo. The common thread that joins their sites is the complete refutation of Zionism coupled with an utter lack of understand of Rabbinical Judaism (in this case simply the Writings). How can one who makes such sensational accusations be taken seriously when they are based on incorrect facts sugar-coated with flowery writing styles?
The article does on to say:

In Facts on the Ground Columbia Professor Nadia Abu Al Haj writes, "In the context of Israel and Palestine, archaeology emerged as a central scientific discipline because of the manner in which colonial settlement was configured in a language of, and a belief in, Jewish national return." Even though asserting ownership to a country after absence of 2000 years is preposterous, Israel's theft of Palestine from the native population is popularly legitimised through the claim that today's Jews descend from inhabitants of Greco-Roman Judea.

Preposterous? Kind of like Christians and Muslims who decided to annex and mutilate Jewish scriptures and embellish them with utter lies? Talk about occupation! This is the mother of all copyright violations! Muslims know damn well that the Land of Israel belongs to the Jews. Why was the Land uncultivated for thousands of years-barren? Why was the Western Wall made into a garbage dump under Muslim occupation? Is their a statue of limitations on occupation? The occupation will only end when Jews return to Judaism and reclaim their ancient Land. If the Jewish claims on the Land of Israel are absurd, than why to Muslims, in particular, cite figures like King David who conquered the Land and made war with "Arabs" of his time?
Sands comments

Sand admits, "[The] chances that the Palestinians are descendants of the ancient Judaic people are much greater than the chances that you or I [meaning Israeli Jews] are its descendents."

are equally idiotic because the word Palestinian was taken from the Hebrew "Plishtim," a group of non-Jewish Semites who lived in the South of Israel some 3,000 years ago. The Romans, in an attempt to erase the Jewishness of the Land of Israel, called Israel "Palestine." This has been the status quo, the Roman Occupation, for roughly 2,000 years. If the Palestinians are the actual Jews להבדיל, then where is their Torah? Blowing themselves up and using their children as shields is akin to the sacrificing of children done by pre-Arab idolaters recorded in the Torah:

Nothing has changed in the Middle East in 3,500 years. You have Jews and the maniacs around them. Perhaps the only exception is that now the are maniacs writing about us as well-even some from amongst us.
