Tovia Goldman and the New Immigrants

Much has been written and said about the new wave of immigrants from the Former Soviet Union. However, only every once in a while does someone show up from Sweden. Interestingly, I had that experience, as I wrote, several years ago with a young immigrant from Sweden, Tovia Goldman. Like many of the Russian immigrants, Goldman is of mixed background-the bi-product of assimilation in the exile. No matter, Goldman has made his apparent home Israel.


Disturbingly, like some the immigrants from the FSU, he carried with him lingering self-hatred from the exile and in some cases-as with him-a hatred of Jews that runs deep. Listed below are segments of the subsequent conversations I've had with Tunia:

Here is a someone of Jewish background struggling with his Jewish identity. Unfortunately, he is like so many Europeans in Tel Aviv, whose liberal politics is only a front for their elitism and racist ethos, hearkening back to a period of Jewish secularism from pre-World War II Germany. There the Jew tried to do everything he could to distance himself from his Jewish identity-to fit into an "accepting" Western society. Coming back to Israel after having been through the moral freezer of Europe, the Russian/European immigrant doesn't understand the religious faith of his Sephardic (or Mizrachi-a Jew from an Arab country) counterpart. Whereas the Sephardic Jew clung to traditionalism in the exile, the Ashkenazic Jew (often) eschewed it. Hence, his dismay, revulsion, and hostility towards his fellow Jew. He, the European Jew was taught not to be a shanda l-goyim-an embarrassment before the gentiles. But, now that he is in his own homeland, he still carries with him the habits and customs of his former spiritual imprisonment of Europe. Above he writes "...that's between you and your G-d," as if there is more than one להבדיל-one for me and one for him? The Future Christians of America

    In an amazing twisted irony, Eric Yoffie, leader of the "Reform" movement was apparently born with the name in Hebrew that means beautiful or good. Unfortunately, he is ironically one of the most guilty parties in the Israeli-Arab conflict and a misleader of the Jewish people. He is the antithesis of a good Jew-part of a heretical "branch of Judaism," like the early Christians, that seeks to take Jews away from the Torah and it's precepts. He is the leader of the F.C.A.-The Future Christians of America.


    Adding to his crimes, Yoffie insists of casting his opinions upon the current settlement crisis. Here is a heretic of the highest order using his "Jewishness" and his vulgarly ironic name to attack Israel's position and undermine its Torah claim to the Land of Israel. Is this a friend of Israel? The Gemara relates (Sotah 49b)*:

In the footsteps of the Messiah insolence will increase and honor dwindle..

Unfortunately, we are seeing this insolence on the highest levels-amongst the leadership of some of the biggest Jewish groups. The end result? More assimilation, less Jews and more Christians. Just what the early Christians (and present) wanted, eh?

Epilogue
    I was in the center of town with a friend from New York who was returning to the States in a few days. He asked me, as we sat amongst a crowd of young frum American kids, "what will be of American Jews." The discussion turned to the topic of assimilation and "Jews for Jesus" (J4J). I him him that the Christians who get involved with them inevitably learn some kind of Jewish rituals. Many of them, some whom I know, converted to Judaism (Orthodox). The Jews who get duped into that probably couldn't be saved anyway-they didn't have a rigorous education as youngsters.


    However, the "reform" movement actually re-forms Jews into Christians. They are the real J4J. The Jewish man (or woman) who doesn't have the Torah knowledge goes into the larger gentile world that his parents told him to *"conquer." Instead, it conquers him. He meets a non-Jewish girl who accepts him for who he is and doesn't give him the Friends treatment of endless narcissistic fronting. So he marries the girl because beforehand the "reform rabbi" tells them, "if you raise your kids Jewish then they'll be Jewish." So the kids, who are not Jews, "consider themselves Jewish," but don't follow Jewish rituals and don't study Torah. The Jew has been converted to Christianity (or Americana), and the Jewish community has facilitated it and made it "kosher!" When someone like Meir Kahane or another knowledgeable and caring Jew coming along and says, "wait! stop!," then they are labeled an inciter, a hooligan, a terrorist, a threat to the liberal Jewish agenda.


    When the grandparent, who may have even studied in a heder (rigorous Orthodox Jewish learning school in Europe) sees his/her great-grandchildren wearing a Christian cross-then and only then does she internalize her mistake-but it's too late.

Why Does Israel Suffer?

Around about 2004 I lived in Ramat Aviv in Northern Tel Aviv, the last residence of Yitshak Rabin. As one can imagine, there were plenty of secular “peace-nikim” there. One curious character was Tuvia Goldman. Wearing a knitted kippa off and on, Tuvia was a “Zionist” from Sweden. However, after having talked to him on more than one occasion, he was not a religious Zionist but rather a New Age Zionist.

What is a New Age Zionist? He is someone who loves Jabotinsky, Hertzl, Ben-Gurion, and all of the pioneers of secular Zionism and the “forefathers” of the State Of Israel. A New Age Zionist (NAZ) loves the I.D.F. and makes sure to serve. He believes in the State of Israel-the secular State of Israel and needs to make sure that it remains secular and European-run. He must make sure that he serves so that when he drags Jews screaming from their houses he can say how “noble” and “Israeli” he is. A NAZ is a secular Israeli, or even a hutznik (non-Israeli Jew), like Silverstein. He will, in the same breath, tell you how “Jewish” he is. His Jewishness has nothing to do with the Torah-it is a contrived Jewishness. He is Jewish because he is free in the Land of Israel. Free to eat milk and meat. Free to not observe Shabbat or other holidays. Free to have tattoos and curse in Arabic.
In reality the NAZ is really the Israeli whose secular grandfather left Europe to be free from Nazi and free from Judaism. That is his “hope.” To remain a Jew without Judaism. He has influenced some of his Mizrachi (Jews from Arab countries) friends to follow suit-he now has more followers.
Here is a a letter I received from Mr. Goldman:

I just want to tell you all that I was one of the more than 150 000 people yesterday at Kikar Rabin yesterday that demonstrated for sanity and reason, to end the unneccesary bloodshed and to save our soldier’s lives. This stalemate is crippling this country and has to be stopped.

The settlements are the cause of so many problems and is the worst and most irrational thing this country has ever done. The settlements in Gaza, which the Likud convention decided not to leave, is the quintessential example of this problem.
The majority of the country’s citizens are for a withdrawal and Sharon is too chicken to act upon that support but continues to hide behind the right-wing extremists which “prevent” him from acting upon his dis-engagement plan. He probably does not want to disengage but I could be wrong.

Leave Gaza and all the other settlements is our call !!!

Well, Tuvia was wrong in saying “He probably does not want to disengage but I could be wrong.” Unfortunately, he was wrong. Notice that the NAZ has to make an apparently positive statement to hide his dark intentions. Like Silverstein’s “Tikun Olam,” he needs to mask his nefarious intentions with a cover-lie. His closing lie is “Am Yisrael chai.” Chai? Lives? Where? Some of those people who were evacuated are still looking for places to live. How about those in Sderot and Ashkelon who were missled (and misled) for years? They were living in bomb shelters. How about the folks in comfy-cosy Ramat Aviv Gimel? Perhaps in their case, עם ישראל חי בסרט? (Israel lives in a dream world)!

Rabbi Shlomo Amar: The Sephardic Soul Not For Sale

According to the Jerusalem Post, the Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar שליט"א has stated in a letter to Orthodox Jewish leaders in the USA:

"We ask you to take advantage of your strength and power to influence the authorities in the US, that they should examine the issue with truly democratic criteria and to take into consideration the Torah and the Halacha that obligate Jews to settle everywhere."

In one statement Rabbi Amar, whom I have had the privilege to meet on several occasions, has shown the difference between a real Sephardic Torah scholar and the conniving European leftovers whose likes are displayed on the Wall of Shame on the left. Rabbi Amar, like Rav Ovadya שליט"א demonstrates that the Sephardic Jew, who loves the Land of Israel חיבת ציון cannot be bought and sold-his love of Judaism is non-negotiable. For those of you who have read the comments section on the article Not So Soft Bigotry (Harry Maryles' blog Emes Ve-Emunah), it is apparent that there are Jews who do not appreciate the special role that Sephardic Jews have played in shaping the mankind's view of monotheism. Now is their opportunity to appreciate, full-throttle.
